Sigma Xi
“Developers come in and work on the ASP code, spend a lot of time, then eventually throw up their hands saying they can’t deal with it.”
Sigma Xi is an international research society that promotes the health of the scientific enterprise and honors scientific achievements. According to their website, they have nearly 60,000 members in more than 100 countries.
Sigma Xi’s system was built on the eCommerce shopping cart. It was Windows-based with the database access code in ASP/VBScript. They have thousands of members whose fees are due yearly. Sigma Xi wanted to use Authorize.net’s CIM service to bill their customer’s yearly dues.
The job for Sigma Xi was to develop:
- Code to upload their client data to Authorize.net’s CIM service by iterating through a CSV file
- Web pages to:
- add new members to CIM
- search for existing members and display their information for editing
- update CIM with information for these users
- A Submit page and supporting code that:
- pulls member info from CIM
- allows filtering and editing
- submits the validated data to CIM
This project was successfully completed in Spring of ’09.
Thinix
“Can we make it McDonald's-easy for people to buy internet time?”
Thinix builds computer kiosks for use in hotels, airports, and other public locations. Like mini-Internet cafes, they let people go online when they don’t have their own computer.
Thinix wanted to move to a pay-to-play model for their kiosks, taking customer credit cards on the machines and billing them through Authorize.net. We worked out a licensing arrangement whereby they could use IBillIt on their kiosks. After Thinix picked a card swipe reader, we wrote the code to read the card via the card swipe reader and integrated it with IBillIt to process the payment via Authorize.net.
The card-swipe portion of this project was completed at the end of ’08. So, if you see a Thinix kiosk, think of us!
